CHOOSING YOUR CLASS
Please read the information below and choose your class carefully. The Committee will consider your choice and endeavour to place you in the class of your choice but we reserve the right to place you in the most appropriate class.
It’s important for you to choose your class carefully as your choice affects not only yourself but others in the class. It’s important to realize that years of dancing do not necessarily make you an advanced dancer; it all depends on your innate ability and attending advanced technique classes. Ask friends for their opinion or your teacher.
Please use the information below and the flow chart under it to help you decide which class to choose.
The classes will be divided into two main bands:
The TECHNIQUE CLASSES will be serious technique classes which will concentrate on footwork and dancing formations and dances correctly with most of the dances being RSCDS ones. You must be physically fit to take part in these classes.
The LOW IMPACT CLASSES are for dancers who no longer wish to do concentrated work on steps and formations. There will be two of them -

Music Class
Chris Duncan music course – Playing for Scottish Country Dancing
Chris Duncan has generously offered to run a music course during the School. The intention of this class is to explore what it means to play for Scottish Country Dancing. Performance will be encouraged but not compulsory. He will start by examining how to make tunes sound Scottish. Then he will look at how to arrange tunes to fit the dance, how to watch the dancers, and most of all how to enjoy it all! Just bring your instrument, your ears, and a pencil. Chris will provide all the paper you need, including blank music manuscript.
At this stage, the plan is to have 4 classes of 2 hours. One lesson would be for jig, one for reel, one for strathspey, and then if you wish, one lesson to try it all out on some willing dancers.
Let us know if you are interested in this.
Ta muchly.
